Spanier Silenced by Board of Trustees
It’s been five very long days and the only notable words to come from Graham Spanier have been “unconditional support.” Well, now we know why.
Two members close to the administration have told the Chronicle for Higher Education that Graham Spanier is following strict orders to stay silent. One of the sources said, “It’s tearing Graham up to sit by and watch everything he’s done to build up this university over nearly 17 years—and see this individual’s alleged acts tear away at it.”
The source also mentions that Graham Spanier became aware of the 1998 allegations last month, and said of the 2002 incident, “Graham believes he never had any indication of any kind that a sexual assault occurred,” the source said. “He doesn’t know where the breakdown was.”
Lastly, the aforementioned source said “The board has some really big decisions to make this week, we don’t know what those decisions are going to be, but we’re here to fight.”
